At St John’s we are very aware that we have a responsibility to those around us in our community, our country and in our world.

Through our giving and our involvement with mission organisations we demonstrate our care and love for others, especially those who are disadvantaged by their circumstances.

We commit ourselves to:

  • Donate at least 10% of the gifts we receive to mission organisations

  • Pray for the organisations we support

  • Promote the organisations through planned events and publicity

  • Respond to emergency situations as needs arise

We currently tithe ongoing prayerful and financial support to four mission partners, as described below:

Our tithed mission partners

  • Andrew & Lisa Peart, working with the Church Mission Society (CMS) in Bolivia.

‍Andrew and Lisa, together with their two daughters Liliana and Anayah partner with the local church in Santa Cruz, Bolivia to engage with the local community in pioneering mission through generous, creative hospitality.  They work as part of a team is to discover creative ways to share the hope of Jesus with people unconnected to church.

Andrew and Lisa are part of the CMS family which is made up of disciples of Jesus from various countries, cultural backgrounds and walks of life. When we say “we” we are talking about a vibrant mix of people in mission from the UK, Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia – all following Jesus to take the good news to those on the edges.

Local Social Action

A message and request from the World Mission Team

1 Cor. 12:27  “You are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it”.

The World Mission Team are following up on the overwhelming response and results from last year’s audit; discovering how many of the people in the congregations are involved in mission, contributing skills, time, prayer and money to charitable work being done locally and around the world. Please complete the local social action audit form and place in the box at the back of church.

You are probably aware that as a church we donate 10% of our giving income (shared equally between four Christian based charities) in the UK and overseas and chosen on an annual cycle rotating basis, with each supported for four years.

There is also a great effort from individual members of the congregations who quietly and generously gift their personal skills, experience and time to local social action projects in the community which are close to their hearts. We wish to quantify these acts.

The WMT would like to bring these people out of the shadows to find out how we can all best encourage and support them in their varying missions. That may be to inspire others to come forward and “roll up their sleeves” to help contribute; it may be just a small financial donation that would make all the difference; or simply to uphold them in prayer.

Matt. 25:40 “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”.

To accomplish this, we need to find out more about the “hands and feet” at St John’s and St Peter’s that are working in and around our local community.

The WMT are therefore inviting you to tell us about your activities and how best we can help to foster and confirm your cause. We hope you are willing to tell us your name, activity and the support your need. Please either:

    1.     Speak and discuss with one of the World Mission Team members

    2.     Email us at wmtstjohnswalton@gmail.com

    3.     Leave the slip of paper which is  being distributed, with the information you want written down and shared with us, in a small box that we will place at the back of church for you over the next few weeks.

Thank you, Caroline Smith & David Stanners
