Notices
Advent Sunday is here!
You are invited to join us:
- to commit to one hour of prayer each week, at home as we prepare for Christ’s coming,
- to hear what God may be saying to us as a Church,
- to pray for the preparation of the Parish Profile and the process of appointing a new Vicar,
- by adding a post-it-note to the notice board of any inspirations you sense God might be saying,
- to pray together as a Church each Tuesday 7.30-8.30pm.
Tuesday Evening Services
You are reminded that during Advent, starting December 2nd, there are special Tuesday evening services taking place in church from 7.30-8.30. Everyone is warmly invited to come along. These gatherings are replacing our usual half-hour Tuesday Evening Prayer meetings, which will start again on January 6th. Many thanks. Angie
Can you help?
On Christmas Eve you will probably be frantically doing last minute cooking or wrapping, but would you be able to take a little time out to help with our Christmas Eve Nativity service at St Johns at 4pm on 24th December.
It’s usually a very well attended event, with lots of adults bringing young children to celebrate. This year we’re combining some junk modelling and some noisy responses to help tell the Christmas story. We need helpers for the service itself, to help with making model houses to set the scene and telescopes to follow the star. We also need helpers after church on 21st (probably) to reassemble flattened boxes and get everything ready. If you can help with either of these please contact Sarah Brown.
Also we are still collecting clean, dry cardboard boxes and cardboard tubes (any length). The boxes need to be not too big, the longest side no more than about 20cm/8inches.
If you are able to unstick the glued edges so that it is flat, that would be helpful, but if not, just add it to the plastic box as it is! The collection box is situated outside the office door. Thank you
Aftercare
As Christmas approaches we will again be collecting some festive goodies for the young people supported by our local aftercare team. These are young people who have been looked after children in the care system and are now living independently. Many will not have family or friends to spend Christmas with and our gifts will help them to know they are care about. A list of suggested items is available at the back of church. Thank you.
Pathways
Pathways is a local charity which works with homeless and vulnerable people in the area. This year – throughout the winter and particularly in the festive season, - they are collecting items to put in a rucksack for those who may be rough sleeping. A list of the suggested items will be available at the back of church. Please do take a look and consider whether you can donate any of the items listed. Thank you
Cake Tins and Boxes
If you have kindly donated cakes or baked goods for one of our events, but haven’t picked up your tin/box/plate etc, please can you do so. There is a table in the atrium with a collection of items on. Thank you.
Bible Reading Notes Order for 2026
The annual display of Bible Reading Notes is in the Atrium for people to look at and decide if they would like to order any for next year. It includes sample packs that can be taken to read at home but please only keep them for a maximum of one week before returning them to the display. There is the option of ordering them on-line yourself or via St John’s. More details are on the order form with the display. If you have any questions, please talk to Pauline Macleod.
