Emails will be responded to regularly, but the phone will only be checked once a day (unless someone is using the Office at the time). Please send an email (office@stjohnswalton.co.uk) instead of telephoning. Please note all notices for the newsletter need to be emailed to the office by the Tuesday evening.
World Mission Audit:
The World Mission Team is wanting to see the extent of our global links and expressions of world mission and support of charities world-wide (and in the UK); not only our existing and known church links. We are inviting those who wish to give a few details on a ‘Luggage label’ which will subsequently be pinned onto a map of the world and analysed by the World Mission Team. These labels will be available until Sunday July 13.Please fill one in if you haven’t already and hand it in as you leave church. Contact: philipdswan@gmail.com
After Care Service
Our normal collection of food stuff and toiletries for the After care service takes place on the first Sunday of the month. Please leave any donations in the blue tub at the back of church - there is a list of preferred items on the board at the back of church (right hand side as you leave). Thank you.
Dishes and Crockery in the Kitchen
There is quite a collection of dishes etc. in the corner of the kitchen. Could you please check if any belong to you and take them before the 13th July. Thank you.

Wedding of Jess Glossop and George Burch
George and I are so grateful to be able to get married at St John’s church. I have been so blessed by this church that I grew up in and it is a joy to get married there!
We would like to extend an invitation to the Church Family at St John’s to join us in celebrating our wedding on Saturday July 26th 2025. The service, which starts at 11:15am, followed by tea and cake between 12.45 and 1.45pm, is open to all who would like to be there to support us and share in the occasion.
Justin Thacker’s Ordination as Deacon
Justin’s rescheduled ordination will be at 3.30pm on Sunday 27th July at Holy Trinity in Chesterfield. There will be cake and coffee afterwards in the church. All are welcome to come and support him and the Thacker family as he takes this next step in ministry.
SummerCAMEO
Our annual Summer CAMEO “holiday at home” is happening on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th July this year. This is two days of fun and friendship for seniors (and not so senior). We will be having our usual craft tables, manicures, pre-loved books, workshops, card stall and much more. On Wednesday afternoon Phill and Mike will be entertaining us with music and on Thursday afternoon the Fallen Angel Pub will be open for (no alcohol) drinks and a pub quiz. The cost is £8 per day which includes refreshments and lunch - cheaper than a day at the seaside and just as much fun (without the sand in your sandwiches). Booking forms are available from Hazel Platt or the table at the back of church. Please return your booking slip to Hazel or any one of the seniors team. If you need transport, we can arrange that so please tick the appropriate place on the booking form. Final day for bookings to be in is Sunday 13th July.
Derby Cathedral
On Saturday August 2nd, 2pm the Friends of Derby Cathedral have arranged a talk on the Cathedral bells in the Cathedral centre with a visit to the Ringing room followed by a cream tea. Tickets are £10. Details from Frank Bagshaw 07899 808625.
From July 25 to August 21st the cathedral is holding a "brick by brick" festival using Lego. Great for families and young children. See Derby cathedral website for details : https://derbycathedral.org/
Save the Date(s)!
13th September 2025, 2pm
As you may know, Archdeacon Karen Hamblin is retiring later this year. There will be two farewell services of celebration and thanksgiving for her ministry. The first of these will take place at St John's, Walton on Saturday 13th September at 2.30pm. A second service is happening at Derby Cathedral on Sunday 14th at 5.15pm. You are welcome to attend either service, but it would be particularly nice to have your support as we host the first of these at St John's, where Karen has been closely involved over a number of years.
