World Mission Advent Market
This years market will be held on Saturday 15th November 11- 2pm - please mark the date in your diaries now
As usual, the success of our market depends on all of you!
Firstly we need lots of visitors to attend. Please take a few fliers from back at church and share them with friends and neighbours. There are also posters if you have anywhere you can display them. (notice board, hairdresser, post office, car, etc?) Please spread the word!
Secondly, we want to raise lots of money for our mission charities, so success depends on having lots of lovely items that visitors might want to buy - please consider donating anything you are able, that has a resale value, such as unwanted toiletries, gifts, jewellery, plants, books, jigsaws etc or edible Christmas treats like jams and preserves, which always sell well.
These can be left with me or at the office, and there will also be a box outside the office for out of hours donations. (sadly NO BRIC a BRAC thank you)
Thirdly, please consider if you might be able to volunteer your time to help. No experience is necessary - new members of the church family are always welcome.
Finally, If you can donate cakes for the ever popular cake stall or the Market café, please sign up on the sheet at the back of church or talk to our catering manager,(Jill Rigby,) so she can plan ahead. These can be brought into church on Friday 14th, or early on the day itself.
Don’t forget, small decorated Christmas Cakes can be made to order; please talk to me. Thank you. Lindsay Gutteridge
Wreath Making Workshops
Back by popular demand! We are running our advent wreath-making workshop on Friday 28th of November. Tickets are £7 and cover the cost of materials and refreshments - they will be on sale in the office from Monday 3rd November. Please do consider inviting friends and family for a relaxed evening of creativity and crafting, with the chance to begin reflecting on the advent season.
As last year, this means we will be collecting evergreen foliage from anyone who is able to contribute. Pine and Leylandi of any kind are absolutely brilliant and we need a LOT of these. In addition, holly, ivy, and other attractive greenery are also welcomed. We are also looking for pine cones. Greenery will need to be at church by Friday 28th November, in the afternoon.
If you would like to help at either workshop, please contact Emily on office@stjohnswalton.co.uk. There is no need for any creative expertise! We simply need people who would like to help provide a friendly environment, whether by chatting to guests, helping in the kitchen, or offering wreath-making support.
Little Fishes Christmas Party
For our toddler group party on Thursday 4th December, we'll be sharing the story of the first Christmas with our little ones. As they're so young, props and visual aids will be very helpful! If anyone has anything suitable for sharing the Nativity story with young children, such as puppets or wooden figures we'd be very grateful if we could borrow them for the party. Thank you Caroline Young - caroline@caniholdings.co.uk
Church Weekend Away
Please note that the church weekend away to Cliff College has been postposed until 12-13 June 2027.
Curate Placement
We are pleased to announce that the Rev Lisa Price will be joining us on placement for three months from February 2026. Many of you may remember Lisa, as she preached at Rev Jo’s wedding.
