Acorn Community Garden

The garden has been created on a deserted patch of land next to St. Johns. It is open for everyone to use and explore and we have hosted a number of successful events during 2025. We have plans to put a gate on the Walton Back Lane side and to plant several new trees, a herb garden and to hold further events for the community in 2025 and 2026. Every Saturday between 10 and 12 noon Garden Volunteers meet to maintain and work on the garden and we would love for you to join us whether you are an expert or have no experience of gardening!

If you are interested please phone Steve Fisher on 07510 144024. Further details can be found on the Community Garden Project page. We would love to see you getting involved!

Events coming up:

  • Saturday 8th Nov: Bonfire Event in the evening

  • Saturday 6th Dec: Early evening “Carols around the Tree” with the Holymoorside Brass Band

Research Project about the Garden

Our curate, Jo, is currently working towards a PhD and her time with the community garden forms part of her research. If you would like to know more about this research you can read her information sheet here. Alternatively, she is always willing to chat about her role as researcher too.

How would you or your group like to cultivate a raised bed in our new community garden?

  • We are planning our beds for 2026 and inviting groups or individuals to take responsibility for one. You can grow anything you like (that is legal!).

  • If you are interested please phone Steve Fisher 07510 144024 for further information.
