About our church

The church was originally built in 1917 as a daughter church in the larger parish of St. Thomas Brampton. Back then it served a small rural hamlet, just outside Chesterfield. Now Walton has grown to be a thriving suburb and the Church has grown too.  In 2000, St. John's 'came of age'. The new parish of Walton was created and St John’s became a Parish Church. The last few years have seen sustained growth, so much so that we outgrew the original Church. The only way forward was to take down the old Church, and in 2006, our new Church building was opened.

Walton Friends
A listening ear & a helping hand

We are a group of men and women from St John’s Church, Walton, who aim to offer people living in our community the opportunity to talk, in confidence, to someone who will listen, support and offer practical help in times of crisis.

If you are new to the area and haven’t had a chance to make new friends, we can help with information about opportunities / groups where you can meet new people. You don’t have to attend church; you don’t even have to have a faith.

We will visit anyone recently discharged from hospital, housebound or ill who would like to see a friendly face once in a while. We offer support to the bereaved or lonely and those needing someone to talk to - to share problems or anxieties, or simply for a friendly chat.

Every visit is treated in confidence. All you have to do is pick up the telephone and call:
Heather Silvers
on 01246 569 215

to arrange for someone to call at a mutually convenient time.
