Notices Christian Aid Week, 11 -17 May - this week! Please note that envelopes are available at the back of Church if you do not receive a street collection and would like to contribute. There are also some postcards to send to the Prime Minister, seeking action on climate change. Could collectors remember to collect any remaining bags from the Church Centre, today!
Man Friday ~ Guest Evening on 16 May, 7.30pm at The Compass, West Bars. The after-dinner speaker is Greg Moss and his topic is “Is the Law an Ass?”. The cost of dinner is £16.
Men's Event ~ Caving in the Giants Hole (near Castleton) on 30 May and 27 June. Full details are on the noticeboard at the back of Church but places are limited so sign up now.
Bring & Share Lunch on Sunday 25 May to welcome Andy back from his sabbatical. Mark the date in your diary. 12.15pm for 12.30pm.
Soul Survivor 2008 ~ August 16–20 at Shepton Mallet. Fancy some time away from the comforts at home, hanging out with thousands of young people? This is a chance to: explore Christianity, meet with God, worship accompanied by fantastic music, listen to some inspired teaching, have deep and meaningful conversations and just have FUN! Annual Church Meeting Heather Silvers was re-elected to Deanery Synod, John Kelly and Chris Calow were elected as Church Wardens and Sue Garland and Sophie Hudson were elected to the P.C.C. Please pray for all the people who represent us, especially those taking on new roles.
Thank You, thank you, thank you to all of you who have helped support us through this difficult time. Your love and prayers have strengthened us. Special thanks to those who have cooked meals, provided transport, gone shopping and generally given us lots of support and love. we are so grateful to belong to such a wonderful Church family. Spring Song Concert This was a very enjoyable evening and raised £681.54 for Phase 2 of our Building Project. Many thanks to the Holymoorside Choral Society, to all who supported the event and to those hard-working people who prepared the church and/or cleared and cleaned afterwards.
Little Fishes is our church group for pre-school children and meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at 2.00 pm in the Church Centre. It is a time of fun and activities, and all very young children and their carers are very welcome.
Teenagers! What Every Parent Has to Know This is a Care for the Family evening at the Octagon Centre, Western Bank, Sheffield on Wednesday 21 May from 7.30-10.00pm. Rob Parsons will guide you through the confusing world of today’s teenagers. It is aimed at parents grandparents/teachers/youth workers. Tickets are £7.50 but Chris & Pat Calow have two FREE tickets to give away - please see them at Church or ring 236514. More info: www.careforthefamily.org.uk

Child Protection at St John’s Church St Johns P.C.C. is keen to safeguard children within the Church Family and adopted a Child Protection Policy in 2003. We seek to ensure that everyone within the Parish is aware of what is being done and knows whom to contact if they have any concerns. Criminal Record Bureau Checks are carried out on all those working with our children and young people. Our current Child Protection coordinator is Marje Shaw (568548).
Crèche This has now moved to the room at the corner of the Church, accessed via the outside door to the left of the main entrance. It is led by Hazel Hudson (566202). All children under 3 years are welcomed here on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays during the 10.45am Service.
Walton Friends is a group of St John’s members offering a listening ear and a helping hand to the community of Walton. To arrange a visit for yourself or a neighbour/friend in need, please contact Heather Silvers on 569215.
